The Ask:

Develop a new-to-market rendering of the classic Black Stallion icon that the brand can leverage across every channel.

Background:

Busch’s original Black Stallion art was inspired by “77 – Stallion”, a painting completed in 1980 by a fantasy illustration artist : Boris Vallejo. Part of a lengthy series it was formatted and distributed as collector cards in 1992.

It has since been sporadically used as merch and NASCAR wraps on occasion since the TVC premier of the Black Stallion in 1985, then again in 1986.

It’s been a source of fandom–and even a point of pride–for many in the Busch Army over the years, but has been seemingly forgotten.,

Once kicked off, my process was to develop 3 initial concepts with 3 elements each that our brand team could choose between for a final product à la carte:

Foreground Elements — Stallion Pose — Background

My goal was develop this illustration digitally so that I could export out individual layers or replace with new artwork.
